Dorothy Gale is a character introduced in L. Frank Baum's novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz".
In the book, she is a little girl living in Kanas who, along with her dog Toto, is taken to the land of Oz after a tornado. Her house accendently falls on the Wicked Witch of the East, killing her. The Wicked Witch of the West, angered by her sister's death, trys to kill Dorothy, but the Good Witch of the North gives Dorothy Silver Shoes to protech her. In order to go home, The Good Witch of the North tells Dorothy to go to the Emerald City and meet the Wizrd. While on her quest, She meets a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and a Cowardly Lion, who join her on her quest; The Scarecrow wants a brain, The Tin Man wants a heart, and the Lion wants courage.After killing the Witch, they find the Wizard is not really a Wizard, but a wise man who tells them lessons. Dorothy soon learns that in order to go home, she has to click her heel three time and say "There's no place like home." After, she returns home. She returns to Oz later in the other books.
These stories have been considered classics and have been adapted by many studios as movies, video games, TV shows, and so on.
